Why Plum?

Using a plum as the symbol representing Plum Living was the result of luck and perhaps some divine intervention (and thanks to the technology of MP3 players).  After weeks of struggling to find a name and symbol to describe the vision of what would be Plum Living, it became clear from the opening line of a familiar song that the search was over.  “Out of the tree of life I picked me a plum…” and so went the famous crooning of a Tony Bennett tune as sung by Canadian Matt Dusk, “…The Best is Yet to Come”.

A plum in itself also seemed to describe the diversity of the LGBT community by it’s varied colors, shapes, and sizes.  So why choose a shade of purple?  For obvious reasons.

The color purple (or, more accurately, lavender) became popularized as a symbol for gay pride in the late 1960s a frequent post Stonewall catchword for the gay community was "Purple Power."  Purple is also symbolic of, royalty, magic, and spiritual enlightenment, associated with androgyny and same-sex passion, its various hues including lavender, lilac, magenta, mauve, and violet.
